Paddling paradise in the abyss: Guided day trip on Smøla

Guided paddling trip in tailwind

Join an unforgettable journey through Smøla's unique archipelago. With over 5,000 islands, islets and skerries, this is one of Norway's most beautiful destinations for kayaking. We plan the trip after the wind, so you can enjoy a quiet, cozy ride in tailwind.

This trip is suitable for those who want to experience nature up close, whether you are experienced or a beginner. We move through narrow straits and crystal clear waters at a leisurely pace.

Program for the day

We spend about 6 hours together, covering a distance of about 10–15 km.

10.00 Meeting and preparation of kayak. We go over equipment and safety.

10.30 The trip starts! We paddle out into the archipelago.

12.00 Lunch break on an idyllic islet.

13:00 The tour continues through new areas.

15:00 We end with a shared dinner and campfire if the weather permits. In bad weather we move into a warm hut.

16:00 Transport back to the starting point.

We play along with the wind

To give you the best possible experience, we plan the route based on the current wind and weather conditions. We always strive to have as much tailwind as possible. Since we choose the route according to the conditions, the start and end points will vary. We will inform you well in advance of the exact meeting point. We also vary our trips, so that you can join several trips to see several parts of the Smøla archipelago.

Food and drink

For dinner at 3:00 PM, you can choose between:

Order our local specialty: A tasty cod package from Smøla (must be ordered in advance).

Your own food: You can also choose to bring your own food to cook over the fire or in the open air hut.

The guide will provide basic training in paddling techniques and will be responsible for safety throughout the trip. He will share interesting facts about the area, which will give you a better understanding of this unique environment.

This is included in the price:

Experienced guide: Safety and local knowledge all the way.

Complete equipment: Kayak, paddle, splash pad and life jacket.

Coffee break: The guide will bring coffee and biscuits for lunch.

Transport: We will transport you back to the starting point after the trip.

Memories for a lifetime: The guide will take photos along the way that you will receive after the trip - completely free of charge!

Safe and stable kayaking experience

We use stable one-man kayaks, and it is rare for anyone to capsize. The biggest risk of capsizing is when getting in and out of the kayak, but our guide will be there to help you. We mostly paddle close to land so we can quickly get to land. Enjoy a safe and enjoyable kayaking adventure with us!

It is often windy on Smøla, so this helps determine the route. If the wind is too strong, the trip will be postponed or canceled for your safety. The months with the least wind are June, July, August and September. We prioritize your safety and ensure that every trip is both enjoyable and safe.

What should I bring?

We recommend a windproof jacket, buff, crocs/sandals or barefoot. Light hiking pants work well most days. Shoes are possible, but they can easily get wet. On nice days, shorts are perfect for the trip. You will be quite protected from the weather in the cockpit of the kayak.

Bring a change of clothes in a bag in case of capsizing. Bring your own lunch and drinks, we also recommend bringing some crackers. If you do not order barbecue from us, you also bring barbecue. Feel free to bring your phone or camera to capture the amazing scenery and memorable moments during the kayak trip.
