Day trips

Paddle trips from 10 to 20 km. Well suited for day rentals . There are many possible day trips on Smøla, we have selected the most popular ones here. If you rent a kayak from us, you can choose to be picked up or have the kayak transported to the starting point. If the map does not load on ut.no, reload it. For PDF maps, click on paddle maps. When you rent a kayak, you will receive laminated maps for your trip.

Smøla kayak to Verjeskiftbrua and back

Round trip of 18 km, Difficulty level: green (easy) The tour consists of 2 routes: Steinsøysundet to Hopen (part 1) and Hopen: Verjeskiftbrua, round trip (Part 2) and then part 1 back to Smøla kayak The route goes through an idyllic archipelago characterized by narrow channels and a rich myriad of islets. The round trip goes under the characteristic concrete beam bridge Verjeskiftbrua, which connects fixed Smøla with the islands out towards the fishing village of Veiholmen. The experience is especially unique at low tide, when the landscape changes character and the channels feel even closer to nature

Smøla kayak to Veiholmen

A 17.5 km route, Difficulty: green ((easy paddle trip) The trip consists of 2 routes on ut.no: Steinsøysundet to Hopen (part 1) and Hopen to Veiholmen (part 2). The trip goes past Hopen Brygge and takes you to Veiholmen on the west side of the road out to Veiholmen. A shorter trip is to follow the route on the east side of the road (see part 3). Then the trip is only 14 km.

Smøla kayak to Nelvika

A 19 km route, Difficulty: green (easy kayaking) This kayaking trip on Smøla stretches from Steinsøysundet to Nelvika, through a coastal landscape with fewer islets and skerries than other parts of the island. The route is mainly sheltered by shoals and islands and runs along the land. During the kayaking you pass the scenic Dyrøya, which is located about 113 km from Smøla kayak. If you want a slightly shorter trip, you can go ashore at Vikan. Then the trip will be 14 km. Here it is okay to go ashore at the boat discharge, sloping ground. The parking lot can be full in fine weather.

Smøla kayak to Verjeskiftbrua and back

Round trip of 21 km, Difficulty level: green (easy) The trip consists of 2 routes: Veiholmen to Hopen (part 1) and Hopen to Veiholmen (part 2) and then part 1 back to Smøla kayak The route starts at the fishing village of Veiholmen and the first part goes on the east side of the road between Veiholmen and Hopen. On the return trip, paddle the west side. The west side has more islands and canals, especially between Hopen and Verjeskiftbrua. If you want a shorter trip, you can paddle back to the fishing village when you reach the bridge. Then the distance is approx. 14 km.

Aukan: The Labyrinth

Round trip of 12 km, Difficulty: green (easy paddle) The Labyrinth - Challenging navigation because the islands are close together and the tide changes where you can paddle. The route goes by Gapahuk on Svanøya, and Villsaugården. At Villsaugården you can swim from the floating dock, and take a sauna afterwards. They also have good accommodation in beds. Paddle distance approx. 12 km.

Dyrnes - Brattværet

Round trip of 10 km, Difficulty: green (easy paddling) Dyrnes to the fishing village of Brattværet - Do as Oddgeir Bruaset does and visit the fishing village of Brattvære. Watch the program "Where no one would have believed... from Brattværet here. The fishing village has existed for many hundreds of years, the houses are now used as holiday homes. Paddling on the north side of the fishing village and the island of Storvardøya is also worth a visit.
